The largest and busiest of the Egadi archipelago, Favignana is only 9 miles from Trapani. The island offers both beaches and caves: from the fine sandy beaches of Cala Azzurra, Lido Burrone and Calamoni to the pebble coves of Punta Lunga, Punta Sottile and Faraglioni. The rockier areas, on the other hand, include Cala Rossa, Grotta Perciata and Punta Fanfalo. The waters of the entire island are clear, transparent and pristine, making a dive as well as a simple swim a unique experience. Favignana was also home to one of Sicily's most important tuna fisheries, now a museum, the so-called ex-Stabilimento Florio. Alongside it, there are the Palazzo Florio, the churches, the Norman castles of Santa Caterina and San Giacomo, and the famous archaeological site of San Nicola. True works of art are the tuff quarries, the most spectacular of which can be found in the areas of Scalo Cavallo, Cala Rossa and Bue Marino.
