This area has been inhabited since the times of the ancient Venetians and was included in that great work of architecture and engineering known as the 'Roman graticolato', perhaps even earlier than the Roman era, at least since the second half of the 1st century BC. The 'graticolato' (grid) divided the territory north-east of Padua into a network of streets and watercourses delimiting the Vignontine countryside in perfect squares of 710x710 metres. The hamlet of Perarolo appears for the first time in a document from 1025 and in 1064 it is mentioned as the oldest feud in the Vignontino area, held by the nobleman Uberto, son of Ariprando da Fontaniva. The town extends along Via Diaz, where the new centre with the modern church is located. Inside is the famous and beautiful wooden Cristo moro (Moorish Christ), attributed to the Belluno sculptor Andrea Brustolon (16th century), built in the 1970s following the birth of the parish of Busa, replacing the old parish church of S. Andrea dating back to 1064, restored in 1600, enlarged in 1800 and currently closed. Along Via S. Gregorio Barbarigo, at the height of a capital erected by the Marinoni brothers in 1760, one can see the 18th-century manor house of the Fongaro family. The name Perarolo refers to the pile of stones that, placed along an ancient road, marked boundaries or gave directions to wayfarers.
