Taking a walk along the lake promenade or on the streets in Stresa, among elegant buildings and fabulous liberty style villas is a perfect experience even during winter. Isola Madre with its english gardens is closed at this period of the year, but during weekends and festivities you can still visit the smallest of the three and the only inhabited one, Isola Pescatori, as well as Isola Bella.

The Rocca di Angera and the Museum of Dolls & Toys

In a prime location and with a stunning view of Lago Maggiore the Borromean Rocca d’Angera stands out. Here, in the historic building of a rare beauty, you can visit a little pearl: the Museum of Dolls & Toys. It is the biggest in Europe and hosts 12 rooms, million of dolls in rich clothes, models and androids.

Baveno

Another place worth visiting is Baveno, a town with Roman origins, important tourist place and holiday resort. Here you can visit many houses for sale in Baveno and see the mineral called “bavenite”, which was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century and which name derives from the town itself. It is a rare mineral: in fact, you can find it only in the USA, Switzerland, Bavaria and the UK.

Baveno is the perfect place for those seeking relax and a life in touch with nature.

Snowshoening on Mount Mottarone

The unique landscape of Lago Maggiore is not only about the lake. A cable railway in Stresa leads to Mount Mottarone at a height of 1,500 metres. An enchanted place, called “the mountain between the two lakes” due to its location in the middle of Lago Maggiore and Lake Orta, attracts tourists and nature lovers all the year round. In winter you can enjoy the ski slopes or the tracks for snowshoeing.

Dinner with a view

When dining in your apartment has turned into a routine, then it could be time for a change and have dinner in one of the many restaurants in the area.

The prime dish is undoubtedly the lake fish, especially the Lavarello, the Trout, the Tinca and the Luccio. Typical in this area is also the Arborella, which you can taste fried or “in carpione”.
