The traditional South Tyrolean Stube
&w=1920&q=75)
The Stube is the heart of every traditional farmhouse in South Tyrol. Completely paneled with Swiss pine or spruce wood and heated by a tiled stove, it was long the only warm room in the house. Then as now, it radiates cozy warmth and comfort, invites people to gather, and allows them to experience a sense of homely atmosphere.
It is a room that offers protection, a sense of strength, shaped by the history of each family and brought to life through it. The wooden walls, the corner bench, the solid table, the Herrgottswinkel (a sacred corner with a crucifix), the wood-fired tiled stove with a bench and a “stove bridge” are the typical elements of this characteristic space that conveys a sense of healthy, vital warmth and natural strength.
The tradition of the South Tyrolean Bauernstube (farmhouse parlor) has been preserved to this day, and many South Tyroleans choose to incorporate this nurturing retreat into the interior of their homes.
We now present a glimpse into some Stube parlors that form the centerpiece of several properties we offer for sale. The images radiate coziness and take you on a journey of complete comfort. Try to feel the atmosphere! Because rooms, too, evoke emotions – and the Stube gives us the feeling of familiar security.
