Carnaxide: Location and surroundings of this property

Carnaxide is one of the oldest documented lands in Portugal and was a former parish in the municipality of Oeiras. The name Carnaxide may be a derivation of the Arabic word "carna-axide", which means "heap of red earth". The word may also derive from the Celtic term "carne-achad", which means "land of loose stones". None of the theories is proven, serving, however, to confirm the existence of a resident population in this locality at the time of the presence of the Arab and Celtic peoples in the Iberian Peninsula.
