Location: Porto Salvo, Oeiras

Porto Salvo originally consisted of a small nucleus at the confluence of the roads of Oeiras and Paço de Arcos, which did not extend beyond the place where its church is now located. Its existence is recorded in the Middle Ages (1362), dominated by agricultural, livestock, and extractive activities, being then the second most important locality in the Oeiras royal domain. Its growth owes to the establishment of a chapel on the hill or Caspolima hillock (1530) in invocation of Our Lady of Porto Salvo, whose fervent worship eventually led to its current designation, to the detriment of the heritage toponym, Caspolima, which fell out of use from the 18th century onwards.
