Description

The very name “Schwanenhof” evokes thoughts of calm, dreamy moments in a quiet oasis on a paradise island. Schwanenwerder is known as one of Germany’s most sought-after and historically significant island addresses. For a long time, wealthy bankers, politicians, and businesspeople with magnificent country estates resided here. Prominent expats such as Dwight D. Eisenhower and Lucius D. Clay, who planned the Berlin Airlift from here, also made their home here. At the tip of the island, Axel Springer had the Villa Tranquillitati built in a park of around 2.7 hectares. The island was acquired in 1882 by Wilhelm Wessel, who, together with Emperor Wilhelm II, renamed it Schwanenwerder. Schwanenhof was built in 1901 by Wilhelm Wessel’s sons at the highest and quietest point of the island. The listed villa is the oldest and most historically valuable house on the island. The property captivates with its romantic and enchanting character, deliberately emphasized by the owner. A patina, like in Venice, paired with wit and humor, shapes the atmosphere of the house. The jungle painting in the orangery with the monkey hanging from the ceiling and the giraffe peering in from the garden are examples of this. The hidden “Harry Potter” room surprises with a cozy library. An expansive English garden with mature trees and a pool with a generous terrace form the backdrop for this dream villa and create absolute peace and privacy. Exclusive water access to Lake Wannsee has always existed for this property. It still exists today (via a lease agreement). - Coveted island location in Wannsee / Nikolassee - Quiet, historic location - Approx. 2,687 m² park-like, secluded plot - Spacious, light-filled living areas with period charm - Façade and window frames freshly painted in coordination with the heritage authority - Historic stucco - Ceiling height on the ground floor approx. 3.75 m - Heated saltwater pool (15x3 meters) - Two large terraces - Hidden “Harry Potter” library - Orangery with murals and underfloor heating - Open kitchen with Majestic gas range and teppanyaki plate - Antique marble fireplace - Tiled stove - Two carport parking spaces – Tesla charging station

Localisation : Schwanenwerder, Berlin

The Havel islands within Berlin’s city limits have always attracted special residents thanks to their prominently scenic location. From 1794, King Frederick William II had a summer palace built on Peacock Island, which at the beginning of the 19th century served Queen Louise as a residence. A hundred years later, Emperor Wilhelm II renamed the neighboring island—known until then as Sandwerder—to Schwanenwerder. A bridge to the mainland was built and the ring-shaped island road laid out. It gave its name to the most expensive street in the first German edition of Monopoly. Schwanenwerder quickly became a magnet for the economic elite of the German Empire, who built magnificent villas here. Even today, hardly any other place in Berlin offers so much peace, closeness to nature and seclusion—while at the same time being so close to the city center. Via the AVUS you can quickly reach the government district, BER Airport, and Berlin’s city center with its wide range of upscale restaurants, exclusive shops and charming cafés. Around the Nikolassee S-Bahn station and the Wannsee S-Bahn and long-distance rail station there are shops for everyday needs. A primary school and a secondary school (Gymnasium) are also in the immediate vicinity. The Wannsee Golf and Country Club, the region’s most elegant club, is only a few kilometers away. The neighboring sailing and rowing clubs have been regarded as meeting places of elegant Berlin since imperial times.
