The village center of Fiss is still characterized by narrow, winding streets. It once consisted primarily of West Tyrolean farms, before the village landscape changed over time – partly due to a fire in 1972 and the construction of numerous accommodation facilities. Despite this development, Fiss has retained its original character. A special cultural tradition is the "Fisser Blochziehen," an ancient carnival custom held every four years.
