Working from home is the order of the day. In fact, there are more and more companies that choose to save costs in facilities and, therefore, offer their employees the possibility to work from their own homes. There are also plenty of entrepreneurs who choose to work from the comfort of their home with only a computer and an Internet connection.
On paper, working from home seems like a dream solution for anyone. However, although its benefits are obvious, it also offers some notable disadvantages. Let us take a closer look.
Pros to working from home
Obviously, the first advantage of working from home is the relevant time savings by not having to make a trip by foot, by car or by public transport to the headquarters of the company where the work is performed in. That time can perhaps be spent on sleeping a little longer in the morning or finishing the job a day before.
The working hours are chosen by the worker himself, so that he can match his professional, family and personal activities to his liking. This implies a degree of flexibility that literally no conventional company can offer.
Some studies have also revealed that those who work from home suffer less stress and are more productive, which is usually due to not having to deal with distractions from peers, bosses, etc. In addition, it must be assumed that, in many cases, companies do not offer the best working environments.
Cons of working from home
But, as we said at the beginning, working from home can also lead to some problems. Undoubtedly, the most obvious of all lies in the separation of family and work life. And when you work in the same place where you eat, sleep or watch TV, it is sometimes difficult to disconnect or focus.
On the other hand, those who work from home usually experience a greater sense of loneliness as they do not have companions to chat with regularly. In addition, the risk of falling into sedentariness is always present, especially in the case of people who are not very accustomed to going for walks, runs, etc.
Working from home is a trend both in companies and self-employed people. It must be mentioned that by formulating strict schedules, it is easy to enjoy the advantages to a greater extent. However, those who are not able to impose discipline on themselves in this regard, may face problems. In any case, it is an alternative to take into account for many people.
