How to plan for summer in Barcelona

The summer season continues its course and more and more people are lucky enough to find some free time and enjoy the weather. Those who are able to spend all or part of the summer months in Barcelona have at their disposal a long list of activities and plans for all tastes. Music, culture, gastronomy and entertainment go hand in hand to liven up the summer months in Ciudad Condal.

The first option, in chronological order, is the Grec Festival, which takes place between 1st and 31st of July and is known as an emblematic event in Barcelona. The theatrical shows and concerts are the main performances planned, with the representation of Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre) as one of the star events. Those who want to get excited about the work of Federico García Lorca have until July 28th to go to the Biblioteca de Catalunya Theatre. As an added note, on 21st and 22nd of July two classic performances that relate to Edipo will be held at the Lliure de Montjuïc Theatre.

We are not far from the emblematic area of Montjuïc because just like every year, the Summer Cinema programme takes place here. The film trailers are as simple as seductive, with a wide lawn on which to accommodate the audience who come to watch different films premiering every Wednesday and Friday until August 4th. The selection of films for the 2017 edition includes such outstanding titles as La La Land, Reborn, and Los Odiosos Ocho. On August 4th, by the way, a surprise movie will be released.

Apart from the scheduled events, Barcelona has many other shows that are always present but during the summer they acquire more interest. Visiting the beaches of the city is a highly recommended activity, with La Barceloneta exceptionally well connected with the rest of the Catalan capital. Taking advantage of the proximity of other notable points on the coast of Barcelona, perhaps the more tranquil visitors prefer the surroundings of Sitges or Calella.

Another experience in the surroundings of Barcelona that is becoming increasingly important in the tourist offer of the city is the visit to some wineries, such as those in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, a town considered to be the capital of cava. On the way back to Barcelona, in mid-August, one of the most traditional and popular festivals is celebrated; the Fiesta Mayor de Gracia. Between 15th and 21st of August, this central neighbourhood will once again fill with colour, music, and human towers (the castellers).
