Lifestyle and Property in Sarnico

Nestled between Lake Iseo and Val Calepio, Sarnico is located on the south-western border of the lake, where the river Oglio receives its waters.

The clock of the medieval belfry of  San Paolo Church, built in 1428 over the remains of the Sarnico castle tower, is going to welcome you in this charming village.

Its airy piazzas, lakeside, shops, modern tourist facilities and its artistic and naturally beautiful surroundings make it a pleasant place to stay.

Sarnico is famous for its wonderful art nouveau villas, commissioned by the Faccanoni family. Besides, in the old part of the Gervasoni Palace, a XV Century building located in the highest point of the old centre, you can find the prestigious artworks of the Bellini Picture Gallery. Walking across this lovely village overlooking Lake Iseo, you can also visit the parish church dedicated to San Martino, built in the XV Century and rebuilt in 1700: admire the fantastic wooden altar made by the master Andrea Fantoni. Moreover, if you visit Sarnico in spring and summer, don’t forget to make a boat trip to explore Lake Iseo!

It is good to know that in 1842 Pietro Riva, a young shipwright, opened a shipyard in Sarnico where he began to build the first Riva boats, world renowned for their class and personality.
Today, this territory represents a sort of wine “stronghold”, featuring DOC (Protected Designation of Origin) and IGP (Typical Geographic Indication) wines.  Don’t miss the opportunity to taste a bottle of excellent wine right where it’s produced

Villa Giuseppe Faccanoni is surely the best of the several art nouveau buildings in Sarnico. Admire the two rows of concrete bas-relieves created by Ernesto Bazzaro, along with the light coloured ceramics, the banisters and the main entrance wrought iron-gate of via Veneto, realized by Alessandro Mazzucotelli. The big garden is marked out by many terracings, making the villa look like a ship entering the lake.

Sarnico is also the perfect place to have beautiful walks: behind the village, at about 400 meters above the lake level, you can take the Forcella-Molere trail. Starting from the so-called “della Madonna” track, reach the Forcella fork (“Bivio della Forcella”), then turn left. The surrounding landscape is truly amazing and the vegetation gives it the typical Mediterranean atmosphere.

During the walk you will find the Little Chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, along with the Alpini Church, the “Rocca de’ Zuchellis” and, at the end of the path, the Church of San Nazario and San Rocco.

Sarnico is part of the Orange Flag Villages, a touristic-environmental quality recognition conferred by the Italian Touring Club (TCI) to small towns in the Italian hinterland (maximum 15,000 inhabitants) which stand out for their excellent offer and quality hospitality.
