Amenities and special features of this house

The Quinta do Relógio dates back to the 18th century; it was initially purchased by the 15th Earl of Redondo, José de Sousa Coutinho, but it was in the reign of D. Pedro V that the architect Antonio Manuel da Fonseca Jr. designed and built the palace in a neo-arabic style. Later on the estate was purchased by a millionaire who ordered the construction of a tower clock that inspired its name, but the tower was later demolished and now it is impossible to trace where it was.
The palace lacks substantial completion works of reconstruction but the Sintra Town Council has already approved its project for a residential purpose although its use may also be changed into a charm hotel. The structural works are already done (foundations, strengthening the structure of the four floors with metal lightened slabs).
The palace has four floors with about 1500sqm, all in open space.
The Quinta do Relógio has a total area of 22.144m2 and includes an excellent secondary T7 fully refurbished villa by the well known architect Thiago Bradell, with 440sqm and wonderful views of Sintra and the Moorish Castle, and also a carekeeper two bedroom house with 104sqm.
The wonderful garden was designed in a romantic style with a lake, several springs and fountains and is surrounded by a lush vegetation with rare species such as pine trees, centenary oaks, palm trees, cedars, magnolias, fuchsias and camellias, among others.


Centro Histórico: Location and surroundings of this property

The Arab style palace was inspired by the romanticism of the of Pena and Monserrate palaces. It is still considered one of the most important monuments in neo-arabic style and was classified in 1997 as property of public interest being included in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra (UNESCO World Heritage). In 1886 the future Kings of Portugal D. Carlos de Bragança and Maria Amélia of Orleans spent their honeymoon in this wonderful palace.
The historical Quinta do Relógio with its more than 20,000 sqm of well kept gardens and woods, dating from the 18th century, lies in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, precisely in front of Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most visited places of Sintra’s historic center.
The main entrance is located in Largo Quinta do Relógio just in front of the palace that has the famous Arabic inscription meaning: "GOD IS THE ONLY WINNER” which used to be the motto of the kings of Granada.
Only 500m from the Hotel Palace of Seteais and also very close to the other cultural and tourist attractions and the National Palace of Sintra.
The estate enjoys superb views of the Moorish Castle and the mystique surroundings of Sintra!
