Torrevieja is a coastal town and municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is located in an area of great scenic and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most important salt farms in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales and San Miguel de Salinas to the interior.
