Hiking in Mallorca: variety for all tastes

Relocate your home to the beautiful north of Mallorca by buying a property, and you will enjoy wonderful hikes through picturesque natural landscapes. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, in particular, offers a wealth of fantastic trails that we highly recommend.

A popular route near Alcúdia leads from Es Pujadors over the Coll de na Benet to Bon Aire. The trail covers around 5 kilometres and takes about two hours. Along the way, you can enjoy impressive views of the sea. For experienced hikers, the demanding route from the Ermita de la Victoria to the Penya des Migdia and the highest point at the Cape of Mallorca, the Talaia d'Alcúdia, is ideal. This circular trail is 9.7 km long and considered challenging.

Another highlight is the Victòria Peninsula, reached after passing through the small settlement of Mal Pas. The coves on the peninsula are perfect for peaceful breaks. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets and views of the stunning Formentor Peninsula. A particularly scenic viewpoint is also located near the Victòria restaurant, from which you have a wonderful view over Pollensa Bay.

Perfect for those preferring shorter distances is the route from La Victoria to Peña des Migdia. This 4 km route can be completed in about two and a half hours. The climb to the summit of Peña des Migdia is a little more demanding, but still suitable for beginners. From the top, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views over the Formentor Peninsula, Coll Baix beach, and the bays of Alcúdia and Pollensa – and even Menorca on a clear day.

A simple 5 km hike leads to Puig de Sant Martí, a 266-metre-high mountain in Alcúdia, which can be climbed in around one and a half hours. The trail starts at a car park near the main road from Alcúdia to Palma. You’ll begin by walking through a flat pine-covered area before the ascent begins after about 1.5 km. The panoramic view over the bays of Alcúdia and Pollensa makes the effort worthwhile.

Also highly recommended is the route from Alcanada to Coll Baix. This trail is approximately 13 km long, but very manageable thanks to a modest elevation gain of just 100 metres. You will walk through a pine forest close to the coast.

Another highlight is the S’Albufera Nature Reserve. Covering 1,974 hectares, the area offers a variety of hiking experiences through wetlands, coves and pine forests.

Hiking and Culture: monasteries as destinations

After buying your dream property in Mallorca, you’ll benefit not only from fantastic hiking routes but also from cultural highlights. Particularly popular is the Santuari de Lluc, which is both a pilgrimage site and a recreational and spiritual centre. Each year, around 10,000 people walk the “Lluc a Peu” route from Palma to Lluc. The monastery offers accommodation in rooms and apartments and is appreciated as a peaceful retreat.
