The Val di Non is one of the main valleys of Trentino Alto Adige, opening to the west of the Adige Valley, at the confluence of the Noce with the Adige. It is bordered to the east by the Anauni Mountains, which separate it from the Bassa Atesina and the Val d'Adige, to the west by the Brenta Dolomites, and to the northwest, where the Val di Sole begins, by the Maddalene Chain. It finally borders to the north with the Val d'Ultimo and South Tyrol. It consists of a large plateau, crossed by the Noce stream. Characterized in various municipalities by numerous castles, such as Castel Thun, Castel Bragher, Castel Coredo, Castel Cles, Castel di Nanno, and Castel Valer. Also a place of worship is the San Romedio Sanctuary or the assessor palaces of Cles and Coredo. In the Val di Non there are numerous lakes, separated by deep ravines and gorges, at the bottom of which flow watercourses such as the artificial lake of Santa Giustina, lake of Coredo, lake of Tavon, and lake of Tovel, which give the landscape a unique beauty. The Val di Non is made famous by the vast apple orchards, which seasonally enhance the landscape with their colors and scents. Three municipalities in the northernmost part of the Val di Non have been populated by Germans since the Middle Ages; this is the Deutschnonsberg, composed of Lauregno, Proveis, and Senale-San Felice. The small hamlet of Tret belongs to the municipality of Fondo, located 4.73 kilometers from the same municipality. Tret is situated at 1162 meters above sea level. It is characterized by the small lake of Tret (or Santa Maria) and the waterfall that is located near the village of Tret in the northeastern part of the Val di Non.
