Siena has thousands of faces: it is a city of art and culture, the city of Palio, a university town and has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Gently nestled on the Tuscan hills, Siena still preserves its original look and gives the impression that time has stood still. The buildings of Siena shimmer in the sunlight in a mixture of red and brown, Italian Gothic determines the architecture. The historic center of Siena seems relaxed and yet very lively. A charming labyrinth of medieval streets surrounds Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.

Chianti

The gentle hills of Chianti between Florence and Siena with their famous wineries are considered to be the symbol of Tuscany. Old castles and palaces, but also dense forests and wide fields characterize the world-famous cultural landscape of Chianti. The defiant castles, renovated castles with their cypress alleys and villages protected by city walls stand close together. They bear witness to the time when the lords of Florence and Siena fought for power and the predominance in the Chianti. Chianti's most famous villages and towns include Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Gaiole in Chianti and Radda in Chianti.

Val d’Elsa

Between Florence and Siena in the center of Tuscany is the Val d'Elsa. Because of its location, it has always played a significant role for merchants and travelers, connecting the city republics of Florence, Pisa and Siena. The flat and only gently hilly landscape borders the well-known Chianti wine-growing region. In beautiful valleys, fields alternate with red soil, pastures and copses. The most famous place is San Gimignano. The skyline of the medieval gender towers is visible from afar. Equally important are Colle di Val d'Elsa and the round fortress village of Castello di Monteriggione. Everywhere to buy there is the typical crystal glass.

Val di Merse

The Val di Merse is enclosed by the rivers Merse and Farma and remained relatively untouched over the last millennium. The charming stone houses of the town of Murlo, as well as the narrow streets and staircases that wind up the hill, are very worth seeing. On the hills of Sovicille there are ancient stone age sites. There are also some interesting museums scattered across Val di Merse, including mills powered by the River Merse, which were used to grind grain or weave sheep's wool. The main towns and villages are Chiusdino, Monticiano, Murlo, Radicondoli and Sovicille.

Crete Senesi

The Crete Senesi is characterized by it vast, predominantly desert-like hills, located to the south of the city of Siena. In the Crete Senesi mostly the green valleys around the rivers Arbia and Asso are inhabited. For those who are looking for peace and relaxation and still want to be well connected to other larger towns, the area of Crete Senesi is just the right place. Within a few driving minutes the beautiful cities of Siena, Pienza or the green hilly landscape of Chianti can be reached. It takes around an hour by car to arrive in Florence. Some municipalities and places in the Crete Senesi are Buonconvento, Montepulciano, Asciano and Monte San Savino.

Val d’Orcia

The picturesque landscape of the Val d'Orcia nestles in the Tuscan hills in the southern part of the province of Siena. With its wide plains and the green hills rising in a cone, the Val d'Orcia has a romantic face. The vegetation of this Tuscan landscape includes not only vineyards and olive groves but also cypress avenues and beech trees. In addition, the panorama of this valley is complemented by historic castles and medieval buildings. Since 2004 the Val d'Orcia is listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fine delicacies such as honey, olive oil, the Brunello di Montalcino wine, truffles, mushrooms and the Cacio-Pecorino cheese are produced in the Val d'Orcia and are a real highlight for gourmets. The Val d'Orcia includes the municipalities of Pienza, Montalcino, Castiglione d'Orcia, Radicofani and San Quirico d'Orcia.

Val di Chiana senese

The Chiana Valley is characterized in particular by its beautiful landscape with gorges and lakes as well as the architectural beauty of its small towns. The red glowing light during sunset creates a mythical atmosphere, which in the past also fascinated the Etruscans, who settled in this area and unfolded their culture. Both the physical well-being in the thermal baths, as well as the culinary pleasure is taken care of. The Val di Chiana senese includes the municipalities of Cetona, Chianciano Terme, Chiusi, Montepulciano, San Casciano dei Bagni, Sarteano, Sinalunga, Torrita di Siena and Trequanda.
