Castle Bunneghem - Sloor

The castle on Kasteeldreef in Temse, better known as Bunneghem-Sloor Castle, dates back to the early 19th century. It was built as a hunting lodge for Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, Marshal of Napoleon Bonaparte and later King of Sweden. The neoclassical building is one of the most valuable structures in the Schelde municipality and houses a unique Egyptian salon. The castle is situated on a plot of approximately 24 ares and has a living area of about 750 m². The current owner largely restored and redeveloped this estate in 2017, using contemporary technology to recreate it as a true living castle where elegance, refinement, and comfort blend seamlessly. The 19th-century residence was transformed into a genuine showroom, where old and new harmoniously come together. You enter the castle through the impressive entrance hall with columns, coffered ceiling, and stone floor. Large windows and high ceilings immediately emphasize the immense sense of space. The salons are richly decorated: the Egyptian salon with murals and the Flemish salon with stone fireplace and Delft tiles are real eye-catchers. Via the majestic wooden staircase, one reaches the first floor with a neoclassical salon, a fitted kitchen, several bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The second floor (attic) also has several bedrooms and sanitary facilities. This space still needs some love and requires partial renovation. The castle also features a recently constructed swimming pool and pool house and is partially basemented.
