A Parish of Santo António results from the merger of three Lisbon parishes: São José, Coração de Jesus and São Mamede. The parish includes the renowned Avenida da Liberdade, inaugurated at the end of the 19th century; the “Public Promenade” was created in the likeness of the great European boulevards of the time. A prime area of the city where, on both its left and right sides, we find large manor houses that represented the wealth and distinction of the area. Until the end of the 20th century this area favored the establishment of large service companies, but since the early 2000s there has been a growing presence of major international brands and real-estate rehabilitation aimed at the luxury residential market.
