This dwelling, on the early outskirts of Portoferraio, dating back to the first half of the 1800s, faces west over the sea opposite the Gulf of Portoferraio and east with an open view of the Volterraio Castle. Lying in a small unspoilt valley, where the particularly mild microclimate has favoured the development of a rich and varied vegetation, the property is surrounded by a centuries-old park of pines, cypresses, eucalyptus, holm oaks and other spontaneous species typical of the Mediterranean maquis. A natural barrier almost completely hides the property from view, both from the road and from the sea. Internally, the villa, elegant and timeless, where every detail evokes the historical and romantic charm of the late 19th century, is on two levels. On the ground floor there is the living area consisting of a large living room, a study with fireplace, the kitchen, a bathroom and two service rooms; all the rooms on the floor have French windows opening onto the outside, creating a continuous dialogue with the garden and its precious shady corners. On the upper floor, accessible by a beautiful white marble staircase, there is the sleeping area with its four bedrooms, two of which face west towards the sea and two open onto the terrace facing east, a bathroom and a second romantic balcony. Finally, the property includes a dependance, adjacent to the main villa, of about 50 square meters with a civil dwelling destination that is currently used as a tool shed, and the extension of the park planted with palm trees and maritime pines to the beach below, which can be reached in a few minutes' walk.
To experience this dwelling is to be carried away from time, to a magical place, especially when, in the evening, the pine forest lights up with a haze of fireflies and the stars appear from the lush vegetation.
Being the most populated town in Isola d’Elba, Portoferraio is its county seat, headquarter of private and public offices, beating heart of maritime transport. In addition, the country seat offers a perfect mix between history and tourism since in Portoferraio there are some of the most beautiful beaches of the island.
Coming from the sea, the traveler can enjoy an amazing view of Darsena Medicea, Forte Falcone and Forte Stella. From the very beginning, you can see the Renaissance charm of the city.
Visiting the old town of Portoferraio, you can discover on the one hand interesting historical monuments and holy places, on the other hand you can see small, curvy streets that lead to panoramic squares, old houses with flowery balconies and evocative corners where you could meet some locals ready to tell some curious anecdotes about the island.
