At the foot of the Wilder Kaiser lies Ellmau. The village gives its name to the range’s highest peak, the Ellmauer Halt, at 2,344 meters. Ellmau’s municipal area stretches across the Söllland in a broad valley between the mountains of the Wilder Kaiser to the north and the Hartkaiser to the south. Ellmau is just under 20 kilometers from the district capital Kufstein and about 20 kilometers from Kitzbühel.

It is the unmistakable peaks of the Wilder Kaiser that cast their spell here. Together with the mountain chain of the gentler Zahmer Kaiser farther north, the Wilder Kaiser forms the Kaisergebirge nature reserve.

In winter, the slopes south of Ellmau become part of Austria’s largest contiguous ski area. SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental is a ski resort of superlatives and has won multiple awards. Cross-country skiers look forward to the Kaiserloipe Ellmau and countless more kilometers of groomed trails. Tobogganing by day and night in and around Ellmau is also a popular winter pastime for tourists and locals alike.

Ellmau is a real insider tip for golfers. On the northern edge of the village is the Wilder Kaiser Golf Course, a 27-hole facility right at the foot of the striking mountain range.
