Gerakas is a municipal community and the seat of the Municipality of Pallini in the Regional Unit of East Attica, within the Region of Attica. It is located at the northeastern edge of the Athens Urban Complex and is a northern suburb of Athens. The population of the area is 30,000, covering an area of 11 square kilometers, with a density of 2,722 inhabitants per square kilometer, according to the 2011 census. Known neighborhoods of Gerakas are Gargittos, Stavros, and Balana. It borders Agia Paraskevi, Penteli, and Chalandri.
It is a suburb that has experienced rapid development in recent years. With the passage of the Attiki Odos and the metro, it drastically changed its character into an urban area of Athens with simultaneous modernization of its infrastructure.
In the northwestern part of the area is Koufou Hill (at the foot of the observatory), bordering the Penteli settlement of Agios Dimitrios. Gerakas is being built up rapidly after the establishment of the Doukissis Plakentias metro station, without losing its urban beauty.
