Los Balcones: Lifestyle, Attractions, Things To Do

Located 3 kilometers to the southwest of Torrevieja, on the southern part of Costa Blanca, sits the residential urbanization of Los Balcones. It is right next to the largest of Torrevieja’s saltwater lakes and is a popular tourist destination and residential community due to its proximity to the various fine beaches and golf courses in Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. The urbanization is considered a district of the municipality and city of Torrevieja.

LOS BALCONES BEACHES AND PROMENADES

Since Los Balcones is an inland town, there are no beaches within its urbanization. It is, however, located very close to two popular Blue Flag beaches in Punta Prima and Torrevieja—the closest one being Punta Prima, which is only 2 kilometers or a short drive away.

Punta Prima Beach and Promenade

A small and quiet beach located in the town of Punta Prima, southern Costa Blanca. The beach is awarded the Blue Flag for surpassing the highest standards in cleanliness, safety, and water quality. It boasts of golden-white sands, clear waters, and a wide selection of restaurants and bars—some of which are even open until the late hours of the night. There is also an electric bike rental service for those who want to explore the shores more conveniently.

Wheelchair access: Punta Prima beach also offers wheelchair access for those of limited mobility. You will find a lift on the promenade which takes you down to the beach level, where you will again find assistance in the form of flat concrete surfaces and wheelchair ramps. The lift is located on the Southwestern end of the promenade where Paseo Maritimo runs into Calle Fragata (The Go-Karting side of the promenade). There is also an informal parking area nearby. You can get directions to the area here.

The boardwalk or promenade in Punta Prima Beach stretches end-to-end with beach bars and restaurants and it offers gorgeous panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, especially at sunset and sunrise. More about Punta Prima Activities and attractions here.

La Mata Beach and Promenade

Playa La Mata or La Mata Beach is one of Torrevieja’s most popular beaches. This Blue Flag beach is also the longest in Torrevieja, spanning 2.3 kilometers in length. The beach boasts of fine golden sands and diverse natural environment since it is surrounded by La Mata Natural Park. A pine forest is located near the beach, contributing to the cool air which is present even in the hot summer months.

La Mata Beach’s promenade runs much of the length of the beach and features many restaurants and Chiringuitos (beach bars) serving up all kinds of drinks and a variety of tapas and snacks. Beachgoers can walk or ride their bicycles along the length of the promenade—which runs from Cabo Cervera to the end of La Mata—or grab some drinks at one of the beach bars while enjoying the fresh sea breeze.

On ordinary days, parking is easy to find along the shores of both beaches, especially in La Mata Beach, with its long and spacious area. During the summer months, however, parking can be tricky in La Mata Beach, so it is advisable to take the Line-A Bus instead or secure a parking space earlier in the day. Punta Prima Beach, on the other hand, offers plenty of parking space in the free car-park area located behind the beach.

LOS BALCONES RESTAURANTS

As a residential urbanization, Los Balcones features a wide variety of restaurants serving traditional Spanish and international cuisine dishes.


Alingui Restaurant
The restaurant serves Spanish and European cuisine, including breakfast, and has a bar serving different types of beverages and specialty drinks. Alingui is well-known for its budget-friendly menu of the day option, which offers three courses at a very reasonable price. Well worth investigating.

Attila’s Kitchen & Sylvia’s Lounge
Run by a Hungarian-born couple, Attila and Sylvia, the restaurant offers a fine dining experience for its patrons, serving up dishes from various cuisines including Spanish, Hungarian, French, and more. The restaurant also serves a variety of local wines, cocktails, and spirits.

Wan Yuan Chinese Restaurant
Serving authentic Chinese cuisine, Wan Yuan Chinese Restaurant is ideal for families or large groups of people. It has vegetarian options in the menu, as well as set meals. Food comes in large portions, too, which is perfect for sharing.

LOS BALCONES PARKS

The area of Los Balcones enjoys many large parks and natural green spaces. The main park of Los Balcones is over 500 meters in length and offers a large children's playground, a dog park, basketball courts, football court, table tennis tables, sheltered areas, lawns, benches and plenty of space to enjoy a relaxing stroll.
The park is situated between Calle Iradier Bal and Avenida de la Asuncion in Los Balcones, and right next to the Filton commercial center.

LOS BALCONES NIGHTLIFE

Despite its small size and peaceful residential atmosphere, Los Balcones has something to offer within the town when it comes to nightlife:

El Balcon de las Tapas

A restaurant and tapas bar serving freshly-made tapas (Spanish appetizers on a plate that are usually paired with a drink), El Balcon de las Tapas hosts BBQ nights, where guests can enjoy fresh-off-the-grill barbecues while listening to live music. At times, the restaurant and bar also hold a karaoke night, and patrons are welcome to choose the song or just sing along.

Jessie’s Bar

The bar offers different kinds of entertainment for its patrons, spanning from karaoke night, trivia night, and Open the Box evening, to sports viewing night and even live music sessions. Jessie’s Bar serves local wines, spirits, and specialty drinks and cocktails, as well as tapas and light meals.

Another option for a fun and memorable nightlife for those staying at Los Balcones is to head over to Torrevieja and enjoy the many pubs, bars, and restaurants located in the town that are open until the late hours of the night. These offer numerous entertainment options, including live bands and DJs, and even disco for those who want to dance the night away. Taxi cabs can be hailed on the main streets of Los Balcones, usually near the Filton Centre. You can also book online and organize a pick up at a specified location. Taxi fare to Torrevieja costs around €14 depending on the specific location, and travel time takes about 12 minutes.

LOS BALCONES SUPERMARKETS AND SHOPPING

Filton Centre

Set around an outdoor square on two floors, Filton Centre features a wide selection of tapas bars and restaurants, including ones serving Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and even Indian cuisines. There is a supermarket as well, where one can purchase frozen food, ready-to-eat meals, beverages, and hygiene and household products. Opticians, dentists, estate agents, as well as dry-cleaning services can also be found in the centre.

Mercadona Supermarket

Mercadona is a large supermarket that belongs to a chain of Spanish family-owned supermarkets with many branches across the country. The branch in Los Balcones offers everything from fresh seafood, frozen meat and canned goods, to condiments and spices, beverages, ready-to-eat meals, hygienic products, cosmetics, and household items.

LOS BALCONES BUS STOP

Bus Line-E

The Bus Line-E is the main bus that takes passengers to and from Los Balcones. The bus travels from Torrevieja – Los Balcones – Lago Jardin and back, with a pickup / drop-off stop near Mercadona Supermarket and the Los Balcones Pharmacy (Route CV-92). The following is the bus schedule for Line-E:

From October – May:

7:30AM – 10:00PM Monday – Friday; Frequency: Every 40 minutes

7:30AM – 10:00PM Weekends and Holidays; Frequency: Every 65 minutes

From June – September
