Mare di Taormina

The sea of Taormina has a unique charm, thanks to the diversity of its coastal landscape, which alternates between beaches, bays, and cliffs along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Ionian Sea.
From Isola Bella, renowned worldwide and the ultimate symbol of Taormina’s coast, to Mazzarò, extending all the way to Giardini Naxos, where the widest beaches can be found.

Isola Bella Beach
One of the most famous seaside locations, not only in Taormina but in all of Sicily. The islet appears like a drop detached from the pebble and gravel coastline, connected by a thin strip of land that emerges at low tide, forming a magical walkway.
The entire area is rich in Mediterranean vegetation: the island is beautiful not only for its landscape but also for its lush greenery, resembling a true botanical garden, a legacy of Lady Trevelyan, an English noblewoman who lived there for several years.
Isola Bella Beach is accessible on foot and offers both a free beach area and spots with umbrellas and sun loungers. Sheltered between two headlands, these waters provide opportunities for boat trips to the Blue Grotto of Capo Sant’Andrea, as well as diving and snorkeling activities.
Mazzarò Beach
This beach is also nestled in a bay sheltered between two headlands, Capo Mazzarò and Capo Sant’Andrea, in one of Taormina’s most picturesque landscapes. Mostly equipped with beach clubs and hotels, it also has a small free beach area.
Right behind the beach, a convenient cable car connects directly to the center of Taormina. With bars and restaurants nearby, Mazzarò Beach is among the most crowded, especially on Sundays and in August, attracting both tourists and Sicilians who have cherished this coastline for generations—back when Mazzarò was just a small fishing village.
Giardini Naxos Beach
If you prefer fine golden sand over pebbles and rocks, Giardini Naxos Beach offers a different seaside experience. It features large beach clubs and equipped areas, with options to rent pedal boats and canoes. Just beyond the shoreline, you'll find numerous bars, restaurants, and pizzerias.
The shallow sandy seabed extends for several meters, making it an ideal spot for families with children or elderly visitors who enjoy wading in calm, shallow waters.
Here, where the Greeks landed over two thousand years ago to establish one of their first colonies, modern visitors can dock at the small tourist harbor that marks the end of the bay.

Villagonia
Nestled at the foot of Capo Taormina, at the entrance to the bay of Giardini Naxos and near the railway station, Villagonia is a small, pebbly beach. It is a favored spot for sailboats and large yachts, which anchor here to enjoy the calm waters sheltered from strong currents.
Spisone
Located north of Taormina, near the highway exit, Spisone Beach is easily accessible and, for this reason, tends to be quite crowded in summer, especially on weekends. Large stretches of free beach alternate with equipped beach clubs, some of which also feature restaurants. The beach is characterized by large boulders emerging from the sea, adding to its distinctive charm.
