VIPs go crazy for luxury real estate in Venice

Great artists and Hollywood stars choose Venice. The most talked-about? Elton John & family, Johnny Depp and even Banksy

A panoramic view of the Grand Canal in Venice, with historic buildings lining the shores, the dome of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in the background, turquoise water, and a clear blue sky on a sunny day.

On the Venice Film Festival the spotlight has just turned off. After 10 days of red carpet and celebrities ready to grab the best shot, between an eccentric look and a winking smile, only one thing remains. The cinema.

Yes, because once all the films in the lineup have been presented, voted and rewarded, their famous protagonists return home. All or almost. There are those who cannot stand the irresistible charm of the Lagoon and so chose to buy a property for sale in Venice to continue to enjoy the pleasures of the Bel Paese. Let's see who they are.

Elton John and his partner David Furnish were the precursors when, more than 10 years ago, they decided to buy a 15th century building on the island of Giudecca, next to the church of the Zitelle.

They did not need invitations or annual appointments. They simply chose one of the most romantic and breathtaking locations on the face of the Earth and decided to settle there. And they fell so much in love that they even decided to give their son the name Zachary, in honor of the Venetian church of San Zaccaria which they adore.

A little less in love was Johnny Depp, present also this year at the international cinema exhibition. A few years ago it was said that the actor in 2011 - during the filming of another of his great films, The Tourist - had bought the splendid Palazzo Donà Sangiantoffetti. The news was later denied by the actor himself during an interview, but who knows that the charm of the Lagoon this time does not make the former pirate of the Caribbean capitulate for the purchase of one of our very expensive properties.

Not only singers and actors

Apparently, however, it is not only the stars that are conquered by luxury properties in Venice, but also artists such as Banksy. The famous exponent of street art has recently signed the historic building in the San Pantalon area with one of his works, helping to increase its visibility and value.

And who knows, maybe he hasn't even decided to move to the beautiful lagoon for some time.

Among known faces and works of art hidden among the streets, in Venice you never risk getting bored. Ready to choose your dream home?
