Hennef is a growing city located in the Rhein-Sieg district, between the Westerwald and the Bergisches Land. With approximately 45,000 inhabitants spread over 105 km², it is the second-largest municipality in the district.

Frankfurter Straße, the main shopping street, runs through the city center, which offers numerous shops and a wide variety of restaurants. The central marketplace hosts a market on Thursdays and Saturdays. The lively cityscape is characterized by industrial buildings from the Gründerzeit era as well as baroque court complexes. Hennef is particularly popular with young families due to its extensive and well-developed educational network.

The city has seven primary schools and several secondary schools. Excellent transport connections are available via the A 560 to the A 3, as well as the B 8 and B 478 into the city center. In addition, there is a train station and an S-Bahn line along the Sieg route.
