Lichterfelde-West is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the prosperous, middle-class district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. Known as Berlin’s oldest villa district, it was founded as a villa colony by Johann Carstenn around 1870. The neighborhood is characterized by grand villas and detached houses in various architectural styles and from different periods, with large gardens and small avenues.
The district is home to internationally renowned universities and research institutions as well as cultural centers. It also offers abundant green space for local recreation, including the Botanical Garden, Steglitz Municipal Park and the small Lichterfelde Palace Park.
The local neighborhood center is located around Lichterfelde-West S-Bahn station (S1) and Drakestraße. Here, residents can shop in a family-friendly atmosphere at, in some cases, upscale stores such as Feinkost-Lindner and Neuland butcher’s. Restaurants, cafés and a large beer garden invite visitors to linger. Doctors, pharmacies, physiotherapists, hairdressers, organic markets, a fitness club and a new Edeka supermarket round off the excellent range of amenities.
A weekly market is held just a few minutes from the property at Ludwig-Beck-Platz. Excellent schools—including a private school, a music school and grammar schools—and kindergartens are also within walking distance, as are a public swimming pool and tennis courts with an indoor winter facility.
With excellent public transport links, Schloßstraße is only a short journey away. It is Berlin’s largest and most attractive shopping boulevard in the southwest, stretching from the Schloßpark Theater at its beginning to the Titania-Palast multiplex cinema and Forum Steglitz at Walther-Schreiber-Platz. S-Bahn line 1 takes you from Steglitz Town Hall to both Wannsee and central Berlin; the U-Bahn provides quick access to Kurfürstendamm and Berlin Zoological Garden station.
