The cosy village Rio di Pusteria lies at the entrance to the South Tyrolean Val Pusteria and has been a market town since the early 1269. The ancient walls, manor- and town-houses are clear evidence of this. The municipal area, which also includes the villages of Maranza, Valles and Spinga stretches from 695 to 3.132 metres above sea level and has a population of around 2.960. Rio di Pusteria is conveniently located between the towns of Bressanone (10 km) and Brunico (24 km). The main towns of the Valle Isarco and Val Pusteria can therefore easily be reached by car, bus or train. The distance to the Brennero motorway (A22) is only 4 km, the airports of Bolzano (50 km), Innsbruck (80 km) and Munich (275 km) are within easy reach. Despite its manageable size, Rio di Pusteria offers everything is needed for everyday life. Pharmacy, family doctor, post office, kinder garden, primary school, hairdresser, bank, car repair shop and supermarket are located directly in the village centre. The mediterranean-alpine lifestyle of South Tyrol is also reflected in the culinary diversity of the restaurants and traditional guest houses. Also worth mentioning is the Rio di Pusteria-Maranza cable car connection, which provides a direct link to the Gitschberg mountain area. In the winter season, the nearby ski areas of Jochtal-Valles and Gitschberg offer state-of-the-art lifts with a total of 55 kilometres of slopes and a large variety of trails for cross-country skiers. In the summer months, Rio di Pusteria is an ideal starting point for wonderful hiking adventures and excursions such as the "Fane Alm" alpine village and the idyllic Altfass Valley.
