Maria de la Salut is a village in the centre of the island with about 2.100 inhabitants and bordering the municipalities of Llubí, Santa Margarita, Ariany and Sinéu. This quiet village offers beautiful traditional Mallorcan stone houses that decorate the whole village, as it is located in the area of Mallorca that has been less influenced by tourism. The weekly market is held on Fridays, and on the last Sunday in September there is a second-hand goods fair (Es baratillo de's pla). Maria de la Salut is a rural village that has based its economy for centuries on agriculture, livestock and the production of products derived from the countryside, such as melons, vegetables and wine. One of its star products is sobrassada, as it has several sausage companies. It is about 50 minutes from the centre of Palma and the airport, and less than 20 minutes from the beach.
