A Refuge for All Seasons
This architect-designed villa in a Mediterranean style sits high above Lake Maggiore – built parallel to the sun-drenched slope, resting on massive granite foundations and ten-meter-high steel columns.
Spread across four staggered levels, the house opens through floor-to-ceiling glass façades to nature, to vastness, to light. The generous living and dining area impresses with ceiling heights of up to 3.75 meters. A fireplace, dramatically set in the middle of the glass front, becomes the warm centerpiece between sky, water, and fire.
The kitchen offers sweeping views over the lake, pool, and terrace – every detail perfectly aligned with the surrounding landscape, the sun, and the lake. An elegant swimming pool runs alongside the terrace and appears to flow seamlessly into Lake Maggiore – as if the house were one with the water.
The private retreat level floats like a box seat above the world – featuring a walk-in closet, a spa-style bathroom, and breathtaking views: the Brissago Islands, the Gambarogno mountains, Bellinzona to the east, and, to the south, a wide-open vista reaching all the way to Italy. A Mediterranean garden with shade-giving plane trees gently slopes down to the access road – an idyllic setting for peaceful moments or atmospheric BBQs with friends. From every room, Lake Maggiore can be experienced – as a constant presence and living painting. A place not merely built, but composed.
A home between sky, water, and light.

The municipality of Brissago is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, southwest of Ascona on the border with Italy. Brissago is best known for the Brissago Islands, which are home to a botanical garden. Due to the mild climate about 1500 different plant species can thrive. Among them are palm trees, bamboo and eucalyptus, as well as kiwi and bananas. The garden was built in 1885 by the baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger and expanded by the subsequent owners of the islands, the department store millionaire Max Emden, from 1927.
