San Roque is a Spanish municipality and city located in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, specifically in the southeastern tip of the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It belongs to the comarca of Campo de Gibraltar and its association of municipalities. It is the third city in its comarca, part of the metropolitan area of Campo de Gibraltar, and eleventh in the province. San Roque preserves all the symbols and titles that Gibraltar enjoyed during the Spanish presence. The main nucleus of the municipality, known as San Roque Centro or urban center, is located in the center of the Bay of Algeciras and concentrates approximately 40% of the municipality's population. The rest of the residents of San Roque live in a dozen neighborhoods scattered throughout the municipal area. The economy of San Roque is based on the chemical, petroleum, and energy industries, with the municipality hosting the most important industrial estate in Andalusia, which includes the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery and a power plant.
