Benglen is a so-called farm settlement and, together with the village district of Pfaffhausen, belongs to the municipality of Fällanden, which has approximately 9,600 inhabitants. Benglen lies between the northeastern slope of the Pfannenstiel range and the northwestern shore of Lake Greifensee.
Benglen is surrounded by woodland and green spaces and is situated away from main roads. This sheltered and safe residential environment is particularly popular with families. Benglen was developed in the early 1970s and built up with apartments and apartment buildings. In the 1980s and 1990s, developments of detached houses were constructed in both conventional and highly progressive architectural styles.
Benglen has a well-developed infrastructure, including a direct bus connection to Klusplatz in Zurich and Schwerzenbach railway station, running every 30 minutes and, during peak hours, every 15 minutes, with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes. It has a grocery store for everyday necessities, a post office and a hairdressing salon.
The village centre also contains Buechwis School, with a kindergarten, primary school for grades 1 to 3, and secondary school.
