Portimão is the largest city in the Western Algarve with about 60,000 inhabitants and was once a place where boat building, sardine fishing and fish processing accounted for most of the city's activity. Just a few minutes from the city centre is the iconic Praia da Rocha with its vast sandy beach, crystal clear water and majestic cliffs that stretch to the beaches of Amado and Vau. At a short distance you can also visit the fishing villages of Alvor, Ferragudo and Carvoeiro, the thermal baths of Monchique, Lagos (the city of the discoveries) and even Sagres. Faro airport is only 45 minutes away
