Cherasco is one of the most renowned and important municipalities of Langhe. The town of Roman origin, recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, is located about 15 minutes from Alba, 10 minutes from Bra on a plateau at the confluence of the Stura di Demonte and Tanaro rivers. In 1243, thanks to Frederick II of Swabia's imperial vicar, Manfredi II Lancia, the town started to develop and became the vital centre it is today. There are religious architectural works such as St Augustine’s church, built in 1672, St Peter’s church of the 12th century, St Martin church of the 13th century and the sanctuary of Madonna del Popolo completed in 1702. In addition, it is possible to visit different museums and churches, such as the civic museum, ‘Giorgio Segre’ nature museum, the museum of magic and the deconsecrated church of San Gregorio, which is used for temporary exhibitions and displays. Palazzo Salmatori, also known as ‘Palazzo della Pace’ and built in 1620, is located in the heart of the town and has witnessed important historical events. There is also a synagogue built in the 18th century. In addition, Cherasco has been home to an important antiques market for over thirty years and in 2022 it reached its 120th edition. During this successful event, the centre of Cherasco becomes pedestrianised with hundreds of exhibitors in the orthogonal streets, among the Baroque palaces, 17th-century churches and charming little squares.
