The Municipality of Metamorfosi is located south of Kifisia and is 12 km from the center of Athens. Today it is a modern, self-sufficient urban center with shops, many parks, squares, and sports facilities. It belongs to the northern suburbs of Athens. Formerly it was called Koukouvaounes, and its current name dates from the postwar period. It is served mainly via the Athens–Lamia National Road, Attiki Odos, the Suburban Railway, and bus lines. In the 2011 census it had 29,891 residents.
