Gerakas is a municipal community and the seat of the Municipality of Pallini, in the Regional Unit of East Attica within the Region of Attica. It belongs to the northeastern edge of the Urban Complex of Athens and is a Northern Suburb of Athens. The population of the area amounts to 30,000, the area covers 11 sq. km, and the density is 2,722 inhabitants per sq. km according to the 2011 census. Well-known districts of Gerakas include Gargittos, Stavros, and Balana. It borders Agia Paraskevi, Penteli, and Chalandri. It is a suburb that has experienced rapid development in recent years. With the passing of the Attiki Odos and the metro, it has drastically changed character, becoming an urban area of Athens with simultaneous modernization of its infrastructure. In the northwestern part of the area lies Kofou Hill (at the foothills of the observatory) at the borders with the Pentelic settlement of Agios Dimitrios. Gerakas is developing rapidly after the establishment of the Doukissis Plakentias metro station, without losing its urban beauty.
