The former fishing village of Schlierbach, located east of Heidelberg, was first mentioned in documents in 1245 and stretches along the Neckar Valley over a total area of 900 hectares. Today, about 3,200 people live in Schlierbach. The district is known as a residential area primarily because of its quiet, forested location, its beautiful houses, and the stunning view of the Neckar. At the same time, the Heidelberg city center, about two kilometers to the west, can be reached quickly and easily. As early as the 19th century, the chemistry Nobel laureate Professor Carl Bosch recognized the advantages of Schlierbach and had his representative villa built here, which today houses the Klaus Tschira Foundation. The internationally renowned Orthopedic University Clinic is also located in this district and annually treats thousands of patients from all over the world. Schlierbach is one of the most sought-after districts of Heidelberg and impresses with its excellent infrastructure. The town center includes several kindergartens, a primary school, and two S-Bahn stations. From here, you can reach the main train station in Heidelberg or Mannheim in just a few minutes. A Neckar bridge connects Schlierbach with the opposite district of Ziegelhausen. Together, these places form the "Gateway to the Neckar."
