General information

The "Städtle", the center of Heidingsfeld, is centrally located in the town center and begins at the Reuterstraße stop. You can really feel the flair of the district, as Heidingsfeld has a small old town with many connected terraced houses, pubs, playgrounds and many small stores. The historic town wall is still largely intact and used to enclose the town. The Heigelsbach stream runs through the city wall. The borough can be divided into four districts: Altstadt, Lehmgrubensiedlung, Katzenberg and the industrial estate.

Living in Heidingsfeld

Mergentheimer Strasse leads to the center of Heidingsfeld.

Heidingsfeld still feels like a small town today. The old town consists of many adjoining houses with individual small apartments. However, there are also larger apartment buildings consisting of larger apartments. The big advantage is the close proximity to all the necessary stores, services and the streetcar line.

The Lehmgruben-Siedlung is a fairly large residential area on the slope of the Blosenberg and is located above the center. The name goes back to the Georg Siegler brickworks, whose resources in the clay pit in Steinbachtal were exhausted and who therefore opened a new clay pit on the site of the later Fettschmelze Unkel. The small district was created through the construction of many settler houses with large garden plots. Food used to be grown in the gardens here. The settlement consists mainly of semi-detached houses, apartment buildings, but also individual detached houses. Some of the houses still have a similar style to the earlier estate houses with typical hornbeam hedges and shutters. There are also some blocks of flats with new buildings from the 1970s.

The "snake playground" in the center of the Lehmgruben estate is a popular meeting place for children and young people. There is also a soccer pitch for playing soccer. Bus route 16 connects the Lehmgrubensiedlung with the city center of Würzburg, the Frauenland and the Städtle. Overall, the infrastructure is rather limited, but this is not a problem due to the direct connection and proximity to both the center of Heidingsfeld and downtown Würzburg. However, there is a kindergarten, a family center and a Catholic parish. Katzenberg is located on the slope below Heuchelhofberg and consists mainly of detached houses and individual apartment buildings with garden plots. The A3 highway bridge forms the border between Heidingsfeld and Heuchelhof.

Commercial area

The commercial area is located behind the old town near the river Main. Various businesses and companies can be found there, as well as individual detached houses and apartment buildings.

There is also a commercial area in the Lehmgrubensiedlung, which has a direct connection to the B19 and the A3 highway behind it and therefore meets optimal logistical requirements.

Culture and leisure

Heidingsfeld is particularly popular in summer thanks to its direct proximity to the Main and the Dallenbergbad swimming pool. After work or school, you can barbecue, relax or play sports on the spacious green areas. Especially on very warm days, many people cool off with a swim in the Main. There are also several playgrounds and a beautiful park near the city wall in the Städtle.

Infrastructure

Heidingsfeld has a very good infrastructure. There are four petrol stations, many grocery stores and restaurants / take-aways, several bakeries and XXL Lutz Neubert, a large furniture store. Most of the infrastructure is located in the old town. There are hardly any stores in the Lehmgrubensiedlung and Katzenberg. From these housing estates, however, Heidingsfeld town center can be reached in a short time.

Many employees live in Heidingsfeld because of the two industrial estates already mentioned, but also because of XXL Neubert. The optimal streetcar connections both to the city center and via Heuchelhof to Rottenbauer also make Heidingsfeld an attractive place to live for people working outside the city. There are two gyms in the district and a soccer club, SV Heidingsfeld, which also has its own stadium.

Various doctors and retirement homes provide good medical care. The Walter School is a popular elementary school for children. Today, there are only a few classes from the secondary school in Heidingsfeld as part of MS Heuchelhof. Above the Walther School is the Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius and the associated St. Laurentius kindergarten. The Josef-Greising-Schule is a large commercial vocational school that provides students with optimal training for many professions.

The Heidingsfeld-Ost train station is currently being modernized and is expected to be put back into operation in 2023 after many years, connecting the town with Würzburg, Ansbach and Treuchtlingen.
